Kill Dil(2014) Bollywood Movie Review

Rating: 2/5 Stars (Two stars)
Star Cast: Ranveer Singh, Ali Zafar, Parineeti Chopra, Govinda
Director: Shaad Ali
What’s Good: Ranveer, his cutesy chemistry with Parineeti and Govinda who is adequately menacing and rightly pitched as the rustic Godfather.
What’s Bad: The sloppy writing, the age old concept, the loose script and lack of genre identity in the film.
Loo break: Quite a few.
Watch or Not?: Kill Dil won’t make you cringe for sure, but the film suffers from mistaken identity and that remains its perennial problem. We have a dancing Godfather, who decides to break into a dance at the drop of a hat. There are two many songs in the film that dilutes the central drama. The camaraderie works, the romance does too, but what doesn’t work is the film’s story. The botched up climax and the abrupt, muddled ending killed the little goodness that was there in the film.Kill Dil‘s ending just made me want to yell, ‘Kill Me!’ The film is such a waste of a fine caste and what had the potential of being a good film.

The Shaukeens,Chaar Sahibzaade,Rang Rasiya:1st Week Box Office Collections

The Shaukeens has done decent business at the box office after one week. The film did show some growth over the weekend, though after that it had a 50% fall from Friday. The weekdays stayed pretty steady though and the numbers from Monday to Thursday averaged around the 2.5 crore mark on a daily basis. Resultantly, a little over 28 crores came in Week One. The film would have competition though from Kill Dil in its second week and a lot would depend on how the Ranveer Singh-Govinda-Ali Zafar-Parineeti Chopra starrer does. That would decide the eventual lifetime run of the Abhishek Sharma directed comedy.
Rang Rasiya, despite all the good reviews, has flopped at the box office. The film collected in the range of 3.5-4 crore and is hardly in the running now. The person who has benefitted most from the film is Randeep Hooda who has seen some all around good feedback coming his way.
Filmmaker Harry Baweja has tasted success a decade after Qayamat (2003) in the form of animation flick Chaar Sahibzaade. The film is enjoying a tremendous run in Punjabi with around 4 crores coming in the first week. Even the Hindi version has brought home decent moolah while in overseas, it is matching steps with some of the biggie Bollywood flicks running there. With a lifetime run of over 10 crore expected just from India, Chaar Sahibzaade is a bumper success all the way, hence infusing life back in the animation industry which has been largely unproductive when it comes to films coming out of India.

Ranveer Singh: I Saw Kill Dil And Said ‘Man I Saw Such A Good Film’

Everyone has their own reason of falling in love with Kill Dil, but Ranveer Singh’s is the most honest. He wanted to entertain and knows Kill Dil is such a pure film that remains with its story although. Speaking of Kill Dil, Ranveer told us “I have seen Kill Dil it’s an absolute entertainer. It is fat free entertainment. It doesn’t fall into trappings of scale and canvas. People often show the scale for the heck of it. It stays with the characters and remains focused. It has a narrative and walks towards it without wasting time on floss and what the story doesn’t need. The best thing of Kill Dil is that it remains with its characters. If you see a song or an action sequence, but you are with the character, then that’s the entertainment package as you are feeling it from the character’s perspective. You might be watching action but you are with the characters and with the story. That remains throughout. The music is not created to be a pop album and stays with you just for two weeks. Without taking names, we have a current trend that you make a movie, then you get some hit songs which will be all over the radio for three weeks and then disappear. There is no longevity and clearly I have nothing to do with such songs. There is a separate music video shot for it. Fair enough, it flows out of an entirely different movie marketing approach. Kill Dil‘s music is very rich, it has many layers to it and the best part is that it is made for the film. It must be consumed in the film context. For instance, when I saw the film and I saw Bol Beliya it amazed me. My favorites have changed. It comes at such a point in the film that it traps you with its drama. It grips you when you see it in a film context that’s when you get the real picture.”
Continuing on what is the film’s USP, Ranveer said. “The predominant flavor of the film is its humor. It has romance and action in bits but what I love about the action is it is real. Gunday had many action items. It was much more inclined towards delivering a commercial spectacle, so as to say that we could see a big action piece or a big song come your way. In Kill Dil, the action comes as you follow a story. It’s not action for the sake of action, songs for the sake of song. The story remains consistent through the film, you are with the characters. It’s really one of those rare films which in their editing have done an incredible job of beading the soul of the story with the spectacle of the film, which never looks enforced. Till the last frame you are with the characters and their highs and lows, staying honest to film and characters. I didn’t expect this actually but it took me completely by surprise and I said, ‘Man! I saw a good film.’ I got very emotional and it is such a special film. Shaad is directing after 7 years and I am the lead. This was my teenage dream that one day YRF will produce, Shaad will direct and I will be the actor. And because it’s a film about its characters, it is an actor’s film.”

Now Catch PK’s Teaser On Twitter’s Audio Card

PK produced by UTV motion pictures along with Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra is already creating a lot of buzz for its innovative promotions. The movie is the first one to use Twitter’s Audio Card for its movie promotions, by making its official teaser available on Twitter.
While the PK Teaser has been widely loved by audiences across social platforms, the idea was to bring focus on the dialogues of the film as UTV believes they will be a big engagement driver. Says an insider, “The studio’s strong Twitter presence was leveraged to get people to sample content from the film and so the ‘sound card’ technology was integrated on to our account. This technology exists in the US, but UTV Motion Pictures have been the first account to actually integrate it and use it to send out interesting & engaging bits from the film in India.”
In the coming days UTV we will be using the sound card to push out more audio updates in PK’s lovable style, bringing him closer to the viewers in a simple and innovative way through Twitter.
The new audio card is available in India through Twitter’s partnership with SoundCloud. It allows Indian users to discover and listen to audio directly in their timeline on both iOS and Android devices.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, PK stars Aamir Khan, Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput, Boman Iraniand Saurabh Shukla among others and is slated for a December 19th, 2014 release.
