Happy New Year:4th Weekend And The Shaukeens:2nd Weekend Box Office Collections

Happy New Year performed lower on the fourth weekend. The film collected approx 1 crore over the weekend and now stands with a total collection of 202.80 crores at the domestic box office.

The Shaukeens showed minimal growth on its second Sunday. The film collected 1.2 crores on 2nd Sunday. It now stands with a total collection of 31.20 crores at the domestic box office.The film dropped majorly in the week and even on the second weekend it did not show much growth. The Shaukeens in spite of being promoted by Akshay Kumar, who has a cameo role in the film, did not really benefit from it. The film did not gather much positive word of mouth and due to mostly negative critics ratings, it had little to latch onto to perform better.

Jacqueline Fernandez In Her Dual Avatar For ‘Roy’ Revealed

Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez, is all set to play a double role in her next film titled Roy. The actress will be sporting two different looks for the film that also stars Arjun Rampal and Ranbir Kapoor.

Jacqueline will be seen playing the characters of Tia and Ayesha.The film is slated to release on February 13, 2015.

The actress will be sporting a short crop with a classy look as Tia and on the other hand Jacqueline is seen dressed very casually with her long tresses as Ayesha. Producer Bhushan Kumar says, “This is the first time one will see Jacqueline in a double role. Both her roles are contrasting and will grip the audience attention.”

Lingaa Bollywood Movie Trailer Review

A popular film observer once wrote, only Salman Khan can pull off being garish and add conviction to the outlandish stunts. Year after year we agree on the same but the unanimous agreement remains that the Daddy of it all is – Rajinikanth. But Lingaa‘s trailer gives me the feeling that the typical staple, money incurring antics of the Superstar in beginning to wear out. It’s a typical commercial fare that has every loophole which a swear-by-Rajini fan will readily fall for.

The typical stunts haven’t changed in his last few films and Rajinikanth who emerged out of daughter Soundarya’s Kochaadaiyaan earlier this year doesn’t have graphics to conceal his inability to brilliantly slip in a Lingaa as he has in a Sivaji.

The trailer was not hate-worthy but nothing extraordinary or nothing we haven’t seen before. Rajinikanth slips from one incomprehensible era to another looking the same, delivering in his iconic pitch perfect tone the dialogues which are none short of being a clap trap. The 63 year old’s energy remains unfathomable and his punch lines can still cast the same spell on his millions of fans. While people are wooting crazily about Rajni in this trailer, I and many like me can’t help but wonder what different is Rajinikanth doing.

He isn’t just about floss and swagger; he is also an impeccable actor. Rajini hasn’t been used much for his acting as much as for his star power and fan following. It’s shocking because the actor can do much more than romancing music younger ladies – Anushka Shetty and Sonakshi Sinha. Sonakshi has walked in from her sidekick roles opposite Dabangg Khan and does the same like a boss with the real boss. It’s high time another Vikramaditya Motwane comes and rescues whatever little talent that remains in the girl.

High octane action sequences will assuredly deliver what audiences are looking for. Divided starkly into two era, one set in colonial times and the other in modern times, Lingaa needs to be backed by good writing to get some critical acclaim. The highlight point will be Rajini double dance bonanza which will be enough to get single screen crowds dancing in the halls. For the intelligentsia, most of whom might be fanboys of Thalaivaa, the most popular thought echoing right now is why isn’t there anything different in his recent films than what we have already walked through. The swagger can’t get boring but the stories indeed have become sheer cinematic drudgery!

Katrina, Aditya, Rekha Starrer ‘Fitoor’ Goes On Floor In Kashmir

UTV Motion Pictures’ Fitoor went on floors on Nov 16th as per its schedule in the gorgeous locales of Kashmir. The film directed by Abhishek Kapoor who directed Kai Po Che for the studio stars Katrina Kaif,Aditya Roy Kapur and Rekha in the lead.

Kashmir is intertwined with the plot of Fitoor which is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’s Great Expectations and is a story of love lost and realized over the course of two generations.

The first schedule will kickstart with Aditya Roy Kapur who will soon be joined by Rekha and Katrina. The film will be shot in Dal Lake and Pahalgam area of Kashmir.The film will release in 2015.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Bombay Velvet’s Release Date Revealed

Bombay Velvet starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar in lead roles has been one of the most anticipated films. The film was earlier scheduled to release in 2014 but the film was later postponed. Fox Star Studios and Phantom Films have now decided to release the film on May 15, 2015.

Director Anurag Kashyap says, “We are all gearing up for the release of Bombay Velvet on May 15 next year. The film needed time to complete given the work that was pending and now we have locked a release date. An exciting marketing plan is being crafted as we speak to promote the movie in a way films have not been presented before. Just wait and watch as the action on Bombay Velvet begins soon.”

Also the producers of the film, Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios, says, “Bombay Velvet is a very special film, a beautiful love story set against the rise of Bombay. Kill Dil Hindi Movie Has A Low Weekend[Collection Report]

Kill Dil has turned out to be a disappointment at the box office. It was expected that the film would take a decent start at least, considering the kind of names involved as well as the fact that the theatrical promo had made some impact. Moreover, it was a solo release of the week and didn’t have much of a competition from the past either. However, as it turned out, the film took a start around 30% and didn’t show much of a growth as the days progressed. Since the reviews and word of mouth too ranged from poor to average, the game was pretty much lost on Day One itself.

All of this meant that the Shaad Ali directed film just about managed to cross the 20 crore mark over the weekend, which is not just way less than Gunday (which belonged to the same genre and accumulated around 45 crore) but also behind bare minimum expectations of a 30 crore weekend that one carried. Since there aren’t too many flattering comments around the film, the weekdays aren’t expected to throw any surprises either.

For Ranveer Singh, this is a little shaky situation as he had started the year with a good success in the form of Gunday, which had followed the 100 crore run of Ram Leela. Ali Zafar would be disappointed as after Total Siyappa, this was expected to be his big ticket outing. Parineeti had a good start to the year in Hasee Toh Phasee but first Daawat-e-Ishq and now Kill Dil is disheartening indeed.

The actors would take heart from the fact though that their performances haven’t been questioned. It is the film as a whole, primarily due to its core story as well as treatment, which has been criticized and for that, one expects Yash Raj Films’ next, Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, to bring on some good news at the advent of the New Year.

Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has officially selected the screenplay of Happy New Year for its permanent Core Collection.

The Oscar Library will add the screenplay which is accessible to students, filmmakers, writers, actors and others from the field of cinema, for the purpose of research. Over the years, this collection has grown to include scripts for more than 11,000 produced films spanning the years 1910 to the present.
